Company Culture
"We have a retention crisis ... More than half business leaders rate this issue 'urgent'." |
Information for Businesses and Applicants.I recently went through the interviewing process with the almighty Google, known around the world for the unique culture of out-of-the-box thinking and people of a "googly" nature. Just in the interview process I learned a lot about company culture as they flew me out for a final round of interviews, allowing me to see the building, the employees, and get a glimpse of the culture they have built.
Why care about company culture as a business? I believe there are two main reasons. First, customers like to associate with businesses that they feel have more in mind than merely making money. They want to be a part of something bigger. This could be an entirely other discussion just on what culture does for customers, but the main thing I would like to point out here is the second point: talent acquisition. A huge point on top company executives minds in talent. To quote Forbes Magazine: "We have a retention crisis. New Deloitte research shows that culture, engagement, and employee retention are now the top talent challenges facing business leaders. More than half business leaders rate this issue 'urgent'." They then quoted a statistic that only 31% of employees are engaged at work (51% are disengaged and 17.5% actively disengaged). As anyone that has watched "The Profit" knows, "people" is one of three deciding factors of a businesses success. So in that sense, not only is culture helping bring in loyal customers, but it is keeping your best and most talented workers engaged, fulfilled, and satisfied ... thus making your business a far greater success. Some tips for establishing your culture:
As a general rule, the more you give to your employees and care about them, the more they will give back. Be known as a brand who cares about the people it associates with. |
